Former Executive DirectorCitizens for Community Values
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Kuykendall, our former Executive Director, on March 15, 2016.
Mr. Kuykendall served as executive director of Citizens for Community Values in Memphis from May of 1999 to January of 2016. He also sat on the Truth Seekers Fellowship Board of Directors and was a past member of the Collierville Historical Commission. He also served on the Collierville Planning Commission and was the chairman of the Collierville Long-range Planning Commission.
Prior to joining CCV Mr. Kuykendall was director of marketing and recruitment for ITT Technical Institute, where he received national recognition for his performance.
Mr. Kuykendall served 26-1/2 years in the United States Navy as pilot and Naval officer. He began his career in 1965. After earning his pilots wings he had a long and rewarding career that included serving as Commanding Officer of three commands, the last being Navy Recruiting District Memphis, TN.
While serving on the Collierville Planning Commission Mr. Kuykendall became interested in the harm pornography and sexual orientated businesses bring to families and communities when a “Gentleman’s Club” made application to open in Collierville. This newly kindled interest led to a life-long commitment to continue the fight against the harms of pornography and the damage it causes families and children. Citizens for Communities Value’s Vision of significantly reducing sexual exploitation and violence in greater Memphis and of helping those who have been exploited in the sex industry provided a natural partnership of like-minded goals and interests.
Mr. Kuykendall was a native of Memphis and earned degrees in History and Geography from The University of Memphis. He is survived by his wife, Jackie, in the Memphis area, one daughter residing in Memphis, and two daughters who are attending Universities in Tennessee.
